Amman, Jordan
Strategic Think Tank has launched a new extended research project on the future of political Islam in the world, entitled “Political Islam in Focus”. Through a series of studies, research and analysis papers, the project will discuss the history of political Islam movements in the region, their transformations, their relations and branches, and the links that connect them, as well as their regional and international relations, in order to understand their orientations policies, true goals, and the future of their political involvement in Arab countries, as well as global and regional trends in this respect.
The project comes at a time when political Islam movements, led by the Muslim Brotherhood, are experiencing a decline in their popular approval in the wake of setbacks in Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt before that. Scholars, researchers, and specialists must therefore conduct more research and scrutiny in order to understand the future of political Islam and the extent of its impact on the societies where it operates.
The merit of this project lies in the relevance and modernity of the time period under study, as opposed to previous works which focused on the emergence of political Islam groups and their historical backgrounds. For many years, political Islam groups have been the target of a large number of both supporters and critics, sometimes questioning their outlook and at other times applauding it, based on the positions of these movements and groups and their changing views.
In light of this, the objectives of this research project are to determine the frameworks of their activities and strategies. Therefore, we have harnessed our efforts to present qualitative and unique studies and policy papers, in which a distinguished group of writers and specialists from all Arab countries took part, and we have produced a wide set of knowledge including:
- Political Islam and Intellectual Poverty
- The Hybrid Experience of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan
- Hamas declared a terrorist organization in Britain: Indications and Effects on the Muslim Brotherhood
- Talibanist Afghanistan: The Future and Implications on Political Islam
- The International Organization of the Muslim Brotherhood in Crisis: Contexts and Directions
- The Muslim Brotherhood: Dismantling the Problems Associated with the Position Regarding Terrorism and Extremism
- The Crisis of Thought and Practice in Political Islam.
And more topics will be presented to keep political Islam in focus.
