This study is seeking to answer questions related to the nature of the Chechen fighters, who are divided in their position on the Ukrainian crisis, to be either supporters of Russia or supporters of Ukraine, via highlighting Chechens' political and religious history, analyzing their religious and national identity, and their position in the map of the international and regional scene, in addition to the transformations of the Chechen state since its independence from the former Soviet Union until the present moment, passing through the important historical stations that Chechnya experienced, from the Chechen-Russian wars, the phenomenon of Arab fighters, the Chechen "jihad", up to the outcome of these events, experiences, and conflicts in the form of the Chechen state of "Ramadan Kadyrov", allied with the Russian side.
The study highlights the position of "globalized fundamentalism" on the fighting of Chechens, and their participation alongside Russian forces in Ukraine. The study is concluded with some important conclusions in the context of a comprehensive reading of the transformations of Chechen fighters, from confronting Russia to allying with it.
